Guy Fieri 10" Lightweight Cast Iron Fry Pan
Not so great
I bought this item a couple of months ago and already the cast iron is peeling. I would not purchase another item with his name on it. I followed the instructions to the letter, so I am not sure what happened. It is too late to send back, so I am stuck with it.
I have used a 10" cast iron fry pan for years. You can't beat cast iron for frying, but it is so heavy and cumbersome. Decided to try this pan and is a lot lighter and easier to store. I use it on a glass cook top with great results. It is much prettier than my old one with its porcelain coating. Although it said it was pre-seasoned, I did rub the inside with a light coating of vegetable oil before the first use. I clean it with very little detergent, wipe it dry and always rub it with a light coating of oil before storing. As the directions recommend, I use a heavy paper towel to protect the finish.
I got this pan for my new induction range (you can't use things that aren't magnetic on an induction range); cast iron was approved for use by the manufacturer. I purchased this because one day when deciding to sear a steak, I pulled-out my old, 6+ pound cast iron pan, and what did it do? It marred the surface of the BRAND-NEW RANGE! After some serious effort, I was able to remove the marks from the cook-top, but I swore I'd never use it again. Then, I came upon this GUY FIERI LIGHTWEIGHT CAST IRON FRY PAN while shopping on QVC ... thought I'd give it a try. THIS PAN IS FANTASTIC! The surface of the pan has a semi-gloss to it, and is MUCH smoother inside than a traditional cast-iron pan. Right out of the box, you can cook with it. I cooked chicken in it the first night we had it, and it was exactly as the cast-iron my Grandmother used for years: NATURALLY NON-STICK, and everything turned out great! Word of caution -- as recommended, I washed only by hand. DO NOT PUT THIS IN THE DISHWASHER --- it will ruin it, and use MINIMAL soap. Follow the enclosed directions from Guy Fieri, and you'll be set. I look forward to using this pan for years to come! QVC wins again! The reviewer who said this weighs the same as his/her old pan --- you might want to weigh it. Nowhere near what my 10" cast iron (Lodge Cast Iron pan) weighs. I would say easily 1/2 to maybe even 3/4 lighter. My Mom could use this new pan without my assistance. I want to note that I had to give-away several of my QVC-purchased pans from the past because the base would not work on the induction range -- this made me sad. BUT ... and it's a good BUT ... EVERY PERSON who has received those pans as hand-me-downs has been astounded at how good and how well each of these pans cooks on their gas and traditional electric ranges. So, as sad as I was to give them away, they are still in good use.
Much lighter than my Grandma's old one and it also has as good release as hers. Great pan and love the weight of it. Beautiful color!
Pleased with Cooking
Would not call this pan "lightweight", but it is lighter than my cast iron pans. I oiled it before using it and had no problem with anything sticking. I made sure the meat I was cooking was not cold as the directions stated. Threw away my old skillet. This one is a keeper.
Not as advertised
Not light weight at all! It us just as heavy as my old cast iron skillet.
Will have difficulty buying from QVC in the future!
We bought the Fry Pan and was very disappointed with it.. everything sticks, and after only a few times using it the pan warped...we just quite using it... my wife is a top rated cook at a restaurant so see know how to cook and not to over heat the pan...it was just a big disappointment and would not advise anyone to buy...
BEST Fry Pan I Own
I can't explain it, but I'm always buying different types of frying pans ...maybe because I've never been happy with any of them until now. I have cast iron, calphalon, stainless steel, and copper frying pans. But this lightweight cast iron fry pan has become my favorite pan .... I use it so much I just let it sit on the stovetop. It fries meats, potatoes, egg etc wonderfully. Nothing sticks to it. I simply use a dishcloth rinsed in hot water to wipe out the pan when I done cooking; I wipe a little oil into it and it's ready for the next cooking session.
Highly recommend this pan if you like cooking with cast iron.
Guy Fieri .............. make more pans like this in different sizes.
LOVE THIS PAN! LOVE GUY FIERI!!
This pan is awesome. It has all the quality of a cast iron but not the weight. I love that it's not heavy but still does the job intended.
Love the color but everything sticks to the bottom of the pan..
I have a heavy regular cast iron skillet that I love, but I can't lift it and pour anything because it takes both hands just to lift it. I still will keep it because it cooks so well and it took me a long time to get it perfect, but I love this lightweight skillet. I was afraid I would lose the perfect cooking of the regular cast iron, but not so!!! It cooks as good and even as the heavy one with the weight. Thank you so much for this pan, I do not want any non-stick surfaces on my cookware, so hope you will offer more choices of the lightweight, my daughter loves it too, I got her one as well.
I especially like using this pan!! I have used it nearly everyday for 3 weeks and have had no problem with things sticking. To me it is a much safer alternative to the non stick varieties of teflon. I appreciate the overall look, shape of the handle for comfort and ease of handling, and the weight. I would love to see it become available in skillet sets and even pots and pan sets. I would recommend it to any one who cooks.
