Genius Speed Slicer Plus with Storage Container
Not as good as it sounds.
"I've had my Smart Slicer for a while. I am now unable to turn the adjustment dial. Progressively got worse and now near impossible to use. Now looking for another better mandolin slicer. It also slides around and makes a big mess if you are slicing cabbage as the container and blade is two small. I end up making coleslaw with my knife. QVC should buy more made in the USA products.
As a slicer this has been my most used item purchased from QVC. SLICES FANTASTIC.
The fry feature didn't get much use, probably 2-3 times over a few years. However, when I went to use it again the turning knob that's used to bring up the fry blades would not turn. I even had my son look at it, since he's good at remedying problems; He was stumped, so now it's strictly a good slicer.
My only other "issue" is that it's made in China. I truly wish QVC would to offer more items made in the USA.
It Worked Freat For Awhile
I Have had this for awhile. Didn't use it that much, but now the blades are dull. Used tonight and had to push the potato through with a knife, went in the trash before someone got hurt. I really liked it, but for the use wasn't that great a purchase.
Love this thing! I have a much more expensive one of these things from Williams and Sonoma, but I like this one better. Today I sliced 5 lbs of potatoes, 10 leeks and a bunch of onions to get ready for our annual St. Patty's Day party.....took no time at all. Blade is sharp, love the plastic catching container..just so easy to use. Buying a second one for me and a few more for gifts.
Saves the knuckles and fingers!
The Genius Speed Slicer is a joy and simple to use! I love that it sits well on a bowl or free-stands on the counter. I have not found any problems with the dials or its functionality. The handy grip works exceptionally well and slices the item down to the end. I have used a different mandolin slicer for almost 20 years and the veggie holder did not work well. This is a definite upgrade and improvement. I love slicing veggies!
Genius Speed Slicer Plus
I shopped around for a long time prior to this purchase and I have waited to comment about this product as not to slam anyone ..however this is the worst product I have ordered from any shopping program..It slides all over the place when you try to slice it also has waste you have to stop slicing when half the potato is still there and what is sliced is not sliced well..I think the plastic is the problem it needs to be a heavier product so you can slice with ease and a better holder to hold on to the item you are trying to slice it sticks and jerks around you look and your veggie or potato is flying up in the air..I should have sent it back but was not worth the shipping it would have cost..Really disappointed in QVC for carrying this product I am shocked if I am the only one that did not have a concern regarding it..Not sure if they still sell it or not but don't waste your money on this one..
Adjustment dial too hard to turn!
I've had my Smart Slicer for a while. I am now unable to turn the adjustment dial. Progressively got worse and now near impossible to use. Now looking for another better mandolin slicer. Sorry Chef Tony.
Handy in the kitchen but one flaw
I needed this slicer to do quick chopping jobs and it does the trick, however....on the Julian setting as I was dicing up my carrots the small blades started to retract on their own when I had the dial all the over and set for all 12 blades. I was cutting up about 3 pounds of carrots and the blades just kept pushing in on their own so then the carrots were cutting up as circles instead of Julian. I'm going to use it this weekend for sweet potatoes so I hope the slicing will be easier there. I also wasn't a big fan of the gripper with the blade in it so that you could hold your fruit or vegetable and keep slicing so you don't cut your fingers. It wouldn't slice all the way to the end. Overall nice product but could use a few tweaks.
Great Time Saver!
I love to cook but hate to prep & this makes prep work so easy! Blade adjustment is easy to do.The hopper is great for slicing mushrooms, garlic, brussel sprouts! Highly recommend this product!
Use Every Day - Improved Genius
I had the older style Genius slicer that I used for years but it didn't do the julienne. I used the older style every day and I'm using this every day but my salads are better because of the dicer where I'm adding ingredients that I might not have added in the past because I didn't want to take the time to hand mince or julienne it. This improved model also has to storage box which the slicer fits into perfectly so everything slices into the bin without anything going onto the counter. The hopper with the lid also protects the fingers and you can load it up with things like radishes and mushrooms without any fear of hurting yourself. Everything dices or juliennes perfectly. The only downside is that the older model was a set that included a mini slicer with the hopper slicer which I use for slicing garlic very thinly. I've kept that and still use it but it would be nice to include the smaller one in the new set so that everyone can take advantage of its features.
Like but careful- easy to cut fingers
This was given to me as a gift and I really like it. The only bad thing is if you are shredding a veggie too small for the protector, you have to be very careful. I have cut my fingers several times. Very, very sharp
High quality, great value
I went to my local brick and mortar store to purchase a mandolin -- for $70 I decided to keep looking! I found this Genius Speed Slicer on QVC and decided to give it a try -- I am so glad I did. The blade is very high quality as is the plastic bin. I love it is easily adjusted and with the handy grip, and handy hopper you don't need to worry about slicing your fingers! I also like the fact you have the choice of either slicing your items directly into the plastic bin (for later use if need be if you are prepping for a later meal), or use the metal stand and slice them onto another surface. Clean up is a breeze (be careful with the blade -- it's very sharp). I purchased the red and it's a nice bright red.
