E167956 - Garmin nuvi 50LM 5" GPS with Lifetime US &Canada Maps
I purchased this July 2012. I only used a very short time, probably a total of 20 hours within 8 months. The last time I went to use it, it wouldn't do anything, and then I couldn't shut it off. I had to wait for the battery to die. Contacted Garmin (as still under warrenty) sent it back & in return I was sent a "REFURBUSHED" Garmin. I bought a "new one" & am sent a refurbushed one in return. What's wrong it this picture. Do not recommend.
What a disappointment this Garmin has turned out to be. I am actually afraid to use this thing. I bought this in March of 2012 and have had issues every time I used it. I complained to Garmin but they were not much help. I purchased a Tom-Tom from QVC several years ago and it always worked perfectly. I wanted lifetime maps so I chose a Garmin because of the reviews. Never again. I will stay with Tom-Tom. Unfortunately, I didn't return this when I had the chance. The waste of money on this thing makes me sick.
Glad not to be lost anymore
I updated from one Garmin to another, this one. My other one is still good and I will pass it on to my children. This one is sleeker and has the Lifetime Maps, which my other did not and on one trip it was telling me to take a righ into the lake. So, I figured it was time for a new updated Lifetime Maps GPS. Great Quality Product.
I decided to replace an older Garmin (which was great) with this newer, larger version. Took it out for a test run the other day and it was so far ahead of me with the directions that I had to keep on remembering what she said. Then I had to pull over and restart it and again it happened. I was in a place where I really needed the help so, thankfully, a friend had her Garmin with her to get us to our destination. Not sure if there was a setting to be adjusted but decided to send it back before the trial run. Everyone else seems happy so not sure what the problem was with this device.
Bought this for my husband for Christmas, in Feb he was in a bad car accident and rolled his truck 3 times and totaled (he is lucky to be alive) After going thru truck and saving what we could. We found the garmin took it home and put it in another vehicle to see if worked and it did and has been working great ever since assuming what it looked like when we got it out of the destroyed truck.......
Ready to go!!
Can't believe that anyone would have a problem getting started. Was ready to go out of box and already downloaded map updates, did'nt take but a few minutes.. Can't wait for next trip!! I did have instruction book with mine.
This is the second Garmin I've bought from QVC. I love the simplicity and accuracy, but after reading other reviews, I am concerned about the lifetime downloads. If the price is to include lifetime map updates, there should be a special code for QVC customers. Hopefully, I won't have a problem when it is time to update.
Best GPS I have owned!
This is the third GPS that I have owned and I love it!
I recently went to Niagara Falls, Canada and went visiting family for graduation in Buffalo, NY Garmin work fantastic for me. I have No sence of direction and did have another GPS that I didnt trust all the time and I was hoping this one didnt get me lost in Canada and it didnt LOVE IT!!!
Helped us find a hospital while on vacation
I puchased this Garmin before going on vacation. The best thing it did was to find the nearest hospital ER after I fell and broke my arm. I shudder to think how we would have found one without it. We would have had to stop and ask for directions .. and possibly have had difficulty even then .... while I sat there in agony. If it did nothing else but that, the purchase was worth it.
It did a couple of things that were not as good like directing us to a Starbucks that was not there and took us a less-than-direct way to an ice cream store in the city where we were vacationing. It was located on a main road but we were told to turn into a residential area and back out to the main road. We assumed that maybe there wasn't an opening in the median to turn left and directed us that way instead of having to make a u-turn to get back to it. I guess that's a good thing, but it was just strang to be taken off the road the shop was on and brought back to it.
Now I'm seeing the reviews regarding the lifetime maps and wondering if I should return it and look for something else. Besides that, i thought the presentation said it had "lifetime UPDATES" not lifetime maps. Is that something different?
Shame on You Garmin!
A few years ago when everyone was wondering which GPS system to purchase, I naturally checked out QVC where I am a loyal customer. I purchased my Garmin on a Today Sepcial Value and of course during the sale of the product the audience was told there would be "lifetime maps" etc. Well, my daughter is now driving and I wouldn't think of having her in the car by herself without our Garmin. I thought I would download and up-date the maps and of course make sure the Garmin was fully charged. I plugged the Garmin into our computer, and went to the site. Well, guess what? My Garmin product has been discontinued and I can purchase lifetime maps for $89+.
I have no complaints about the Garmin nuvi, it works like a dream! As soon as I received it, the family started to use it. I registered my product right away and of course wrote the password down for when I would have to use it. Now it seems Garmin wants me to re-register but I can't re-register a discontinued item. Ironically, they emailed me a temporary password to "change my password".
Shame on you, Garmin! I should think you would have better business principles about what you advertise.
If you are thinking of purchasing a Garmin with Lifetime Maps, check out how long a period Garmin considers a lifetime.
I have recommended this product to everyone, but I will not recommend it in the future.
I love it and I would love to get more for mom and brother.
