I HAVE NO DOUBT I PURCHASED AN AS IS VEST. I have been watching this vest for about two years (perhaps a little less). The other day I saw the vest in a size 12 and thought I should just do it as fast as I can. Do not hesitate the little voice was telling me that was sitting on my shoulder. The other voice said to me that no way was this a new one, and most likely returned. Where was this size 12 vest for the last 7 plus months? Me knowing retail, warehouses and the possibility that one might have been dropped in another lot or inventory was incorrect does happen. I did it. I ordered it. I got IT...The vest. My "beautiful vest" was not so beautiful. The product had obviously been worn due to the hook had been either pulled or sewn carelessly. The vest looks like sloppy poppy with a crooked hook and loop closure even on hanger. Yes, it's a bit large on me...its ok. I can sew it on to give this item the integrity deserved when I wear this beautiful vest. The lapels need to be adjusted which is no problem for me when you work with a leather product. The lining well, that is another issue, but I have faith in myself all will work. The product SHOULD BE SOLD AS IS AS STATED. I did think the vest was a lost and found item at first due to the dust bag on the hanger, but I never received G.I.L.I. presented in that fashion. So, my love of this vest I shall mend it up prior to wearing. With all due respect from the warehouse team, designers, returns, I should be granted the price "as is" product. I do thank returns/warehouse that they had the intelligence not to wrap this in plastic.
Rated 3 out of 5 by paulette r beautiful but overwhelming for petite petites
For reference, I am 5'1". I am thin but curvy. Waisted, fitted garments look very good on my frame. I love vests and they usually flatter my body type. I wear a size pp if I am doing a fitted look or if the fit is relaxed and I want the garment to fit a little closer to my body. I wear a ps if I want a more fitted garment, like a shirt, to have a more relaxed fit so that I can wear it as an over blouse. On the rare occasion I wear a misses (only with non form fitted items), I wear a 0 ( a real 0 not a Susan Graver 00-0). This vest is an amazing price and beautifully made, but even the 0 was a bit big on me, and the huge collar was overwhelming to my frame. Given the style of the vest it might have worked in the misses 0, though not perfectly, had the designer reduced the size of the coller by a third or a half. The Gili designers tend to forget they are working with real women's figures not tall, angular, dramatic looking models. The styles they are aiming at can be achieved in a flattering way by using the chosen design elements (like a large shawl or wing collar) but not over exaggerating the size and form of them. This restraint is often what I see in the elegant lines of designer clothes in the Madison and Fifth Ave. stores. I obi belted the vest (like Amy Stran) and that improved it some (though the exaggerated size of the collar still made me look like a bird in flight) but for the price (however good it may be) it needs to look acceptable without the obi belt. I am no longer willing to pay for garments that do not fit correctly. I was disappointed (because I love the quality of the vest) but not surprised. Petite proportions are different from misses and large design elements need to be a bit more subtle in order to get the same affect as they do on a larger person. Actually larger busted women would benefit from a slightly reduced collar size in this vest as well. Gili does petites in pants and skirts but not fitted tops. Why? As for the G.I.L.I designers, the reviews on the petite version (actually both versions) of the wrap around coat should convince them to go for a more restrained version of their designs. As for me, I am back to buying from Ralph Lauren (in Macy's and Lord and Taylors) and Talbot's (Talbot's though not the designer quality of much of the G.I.L.I. line, nails the petite fit). This vest is lovely and beautifully made. If you are lucky enough to have a body type that this design will fit and flatter buy it. You will love it.

Excellent craftsmanship on the leather. I think the leather is perfect for being a vest. I would not want it bulky. For me the sizing was fine. I am small and the size 2 fit perfectly- I actually sent back the 4 thinking I would need it after reading the other reviews. At 63 I like well made pieces and will pay more if they look like quality and this vest is definitely very well done in all aspects.

My vest arrived today beautifully packaged on a hanger. The seams are very well stitched, the leather strips line up beautifully and the fit is true to size. I wear an 8/10 in bnm stores and ordered a 10. Got the olive and linen combo and it is very pretty. Great value on clearance.

I purchased this vest in size 4 as I am petite and small chested. I just love it. I got the greenish color and thinking of getting another. It's very different.

I kept this vest for about a week, although I could never get myself to wear it anywhere, it just wasn't flattering on me. The hook closure was not measured correctly so it could not stay closed at all. I felt like it made me look bulky! Looked much better on TV than in person. Too much money to not be happy with the purchase, needless to say it is on its way back.

I selected the gray option in a size 10. My usual size in QVC is an 8/small but GILI tends to run smaller so I always size up in jackets, etc. I own the jacket version of this in the british tan and LOVE it. This vest is great too. It has the same interesting aesthetic as the jacket but they fixed the loop closure! It's a lighter weight plastic hook that is sewn into the garment and the flimsy little thread is glued and sewn down so the fabric does not pull as badly nor do you risk the thread popping off altogether. Good adjustment! I love the color and the fit. It's super flattering and lightweight. The clearance price is still expensive, but worth it and definitely a better value than the original price.
