F09518 - "From Our Grandmother's Kitchens" by America's Test Kitchen
A Sad Purchase!
I had quit writing reviews but, this one was an exception. It turned out to be an odd and useless cookbook. I love collecting and using cookbooks. It was far from time saving and took alot of time with the recipes I did test. Plus the ingredients were not usually in my pantry. I tested several before giving up. This one is one to think about before getting.
Best Purchase Ever!
I was really shocked to see the bad ratings other customers were giving this cookbook. The only reason I can think of is they never tried the recipes. I have gotten nothing short of wonderful from others who I have shared these meals with me. The only way you can mess up one of these recipes is by failing to go by the directions. This book takes you step by step with exact measurements. Men love these meals! I would not only recommend this cookbook, but it has become my favorite and new best friend. I am tired of cookbooks with bad measurements that end up being trial and error.
save your money
nothing great. get something better... I realy thought that there would be some awsome recipes but not. my grandmother and everyone has better one then this book.
This book is such a let-down. The recipes are odd--and I like to try different things--but these are not even appealing. They cut corners on the format. The idea of a collection of recipes from days gone by seems charming, but they missed the boat on this one! This is not a keeper.
So far so good!
I'm surprised at the other reviews. While I've only made two of the recipes - the butternut squash and cheese casserole and the apple pie - both have received rave reviews from my co-workers (they're my test kitchen.)
You might think "well coworkers would only say nice things" I've put them on notice to be very honest - because they are "my test kitchen"
I love all the stories that go with each recipe.
After I try a few more recipes maybe I'll change my 3 stars to 5
It was painful to spend $7.00 to return, but I just had to take the loss, since there was
nothing worth keeping. It was a strange collections of recipes. I guess the picture on the front cover must have affected my judgement. Or maybe it was David, who has become the salesman of the year. The hype has worked because I did bite. Shame on me; I usually know better. Just a warning for you.
Many wonderful recipes
I've made several of these dishes and have not been disappointed - the potato rolls were a super hit! I squealed and teared up when I saw the Slumgullion - Mother, who was a Depression-era teen, used to make that for us many years ago. Noone ever knew where the strange recipe or name came from and I am thrilled to hear how it probably came about. I ordered one for my brother-in-law and he is as happy as I am with the content.
My rating would've been 4 stars if pictures would've been included in each recipe.
I like the America's Test Kitchen Cook Books; however, words cannot adequately express my thoughts while reading this cook book. Only one word comes to mind and I hate to say it because I really like their cook books, but to me this book is awful. I will be carefull from now on because the return shipping is very expensive for a $20 cook book. I sent the book back!
Cook book not a good buy
The book was not what I expected! I looked forward to the delivery of the cookbook only to be let down when it arrived.
From our Grandmothers kitchens
I was very disappointed. probalbly be sending it back. It was not what i expected. not worth the money.
I couldn't wait to recieve this book. Thought it would be loaded with delicious recipes per the on air presentation. There were 2 to 3 recipes that appealed to me and those were the ones presented on air. What a disappointment. Some of the main meal recipes were for foods that my family would not eat. Nice presentation for the book itself but not worth the price of admission. Sorry....I sent it back.
Great Recipes...VERY few pictures
From the presentation on the show I had the impression that there were a good number of pictures to go with the recipes... in actuality there were only a handful. Given that (at least for me) these were alot of recipes I've never heard of..pictures would have been nice to know what it's supposed to look like in the end.
