Hair Removal Methods
Epilating removes hair from the root so your skin stays smooth for days or up to 4 – 6 weeks. There are no blades to cut the skin. Instead, there's a series of tweezing discs that lift and position the hair for removal. Epilators can remove hair as short as 0.5mm and can be used for individual facial hair, underarms, bikini lines, and legs. Epilation is easy to do and can be done in the privacy of your home. It works on light as well as dark hair, and can offer a cost savings because there are no repeated visits to a salon.
Waxing removes hair from the root leaving skin smooth for weeks. But home waxing is messy. When not done by a professional, it's easy to miss an area or burn yourself. Waxing in the salon requires repeated visits, is time consuming, and can be expensive.
Electrolysis is expensive, time consuming, and does not work well on dark hair.
Laser treatments are expensive, require multiple treatments, and can burn the skin or cause discoloration of dark skin.
Depilatory creams are easy to use, but are messy and the odor can be unpleasant. Hair is removed just below the surface, not from the root, so it needs to be repeated often.
Shaving is easy and affordable. But nicks and cuts can be painful, and hair grows back very quickly so it has to be done almost daily.

Emjoi Epilation Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How should I use my Emjoi epilator?
A: To minimize discomfort, hold your skin taut in the surrounding area where you're removing hair. Glide the epilatior in short, quick, brush-like or sweeping motions in the direction of hair growth. Do not apply pressure. For your protection, your unit may slow down if it's pressed too hard against the skin.
Q: Can I use the Emjoi epilator anywhere on my face?
A: No. Emjoi epilators are only intended to remove individual hair from the upper lip and chin. You must hold the surrounding skin taut when epliating this area. Do not use the unit like an electric razor or on your entire face.
Q: Can I use the Emjoi epilator on my bikini line and underarms?
A: Yes. Before removing hair from the bikini line or underarms, it's important to use a loofah sponge in a warm shower or bath to remove dead skin and prevent ingrown hairs. Since these areas can be sensitive, it's important to hold the skin taut.
Q: Will my hair grow back as fast as it does when I shave?
A: No. With shaving, you're cutting the hair at the surface, so it grows back quickly and leaves rough stubble. When you epilate, you're removing hair from the root so it takes longer to grow back. Hair can take days to as long as 4 – 6 weeks to grow back.
Q: Does the epilation hurt?
A: The first time you use your Emjoi epilator, you might feel a prickling sensation because you're removing hair from the root. After several uses, the tweezing action generally becomes more comfortable even for those with sensitive skin.
Q: What can I do for ingrown hairs?
A: We recommend using a loofah or an exfoliation cream in the shower or bath to soften the skin and any ingrown hairs, enabling the Emjoi Emagine to remove the hair from the root. If any irritation remains for more than 3 days, discontinue use and consult with your health care provider.
Q: Should I let someone else use my unit?
A: No. For sanitary reasons, Emjoi epilators are only recommended to be used by one person.
Q: I have varicose veins; can I use Emjoi epilators?
A: Regarding any medical issues or questions, we strongly advise that you consult with your health care provider prior to use.
Q: How can I clean my Emjoi epilator?
A: You can use the brush provided to remove hair from the tweezers. To remove residue, use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol that has been squeezed dry, and brush it over the tweezers. Make sure the cotton swab is not soaking wet. Also make sure your unit is turned "OFF" before you clean it.
Q: Do the blades on my unit need to be sharpened?
A: There are no blades on Emjoi epilators. There are stainless steel tweezers that do not need to be sharpened.
Q: Are Emjoi epilators only for women?
A: Yes. We design our products for women and their hair type. We don't recommend our products for men.
