ETON Hand Crank AM/FM Weather Radio w/ USB Charger and Flashlight
Glad I got it :)
Decided after a tornado touched down in our county that this was a need. We did not have a radio and our satellite TV went out during the storm. Received this yesterday and put it to the test. It cranks and charges easily. I was able to find the radio stations easily, flashlight works well and it allows me to charge my cell phone (just be sure you look on the dial for the WORD "CELL" to put in in charge mode). I am so please I bought two. My children will be taking them to sporting events (or other activities) so that they are able to keep their phone's charged without having to look for an electrical outlet. I feel this will also be a great thing to have camping this summer.
Helpful During Flooding
I want to buy this but I need to know if it will charge a I pad as well as phones. When electricity goes during floods we have no phones and use our iPad for everything.
Not at all what I expected
Too much work to keep the battery charged.
I wanted it to listen to the radio but the battery did not hold the charge long enough not matter how hard I tried.
I bought several of these as Christmas gifts last year for my sons and son in law and they really enjoyed them. Great to keep in car or backpack in case of emergency.
Great little radio
I love this radio. It gets good reception, and has three ways to charge it. It will be good to have in emergencies, because of the WB, AM/FM, and the flashlight. Sounds pretty good for a small radio, but the volume does not go very high. I use earbuds with it, or you can hook up an external speaker.
Ordered 2 of them. One for my husband and one for my son. They love it. Very handy and looks well made. Thinking of getting one for myself.....
Awesome to have on hand!
I purchased three of these for several family members and we are all pleased with this. With a few cracks you can listen to the radio, weather channel or use the flashlight. This wonderfully compact item saves us from having to carry around extra batteries, flashlights and more. Also, you can charge your cell with this by using the hand crack (that is very easy to turn) or by solar power. Granted you don't get a plethora of radio stations but many do work and I was able to receive the weather channel without issue. You may want to keep an external usb bullet type of speaker with it to amplify sound. We can hear it fine without it but like it better with it.
Got 5 of these for "Family" gifts at Christmas, and one for me. Each was given with the wish that they never had to use it. Told them to find the weather band for their area, mine in Lewiston, Idaho is #7. I told the kids to charge it, then put in a window to solar charge everyday and it would be there if they ever needed it. My sister is an EMT and works for the US Forest Service in the summer as a medic on forest fires. She "gets" to camp in some very remote areas and was really pleased to have this for her "pack". I have a son who camps and hunts and this is a handy thing for him. I imagine that his "Boy Scouts" will use it too. I think that this is a MUST HAVE for every home. Not a real exciting gift but one from the heart.
Eton came to the rescue
Our power here in part of SF, CA went out 3 times within the coarse of moments. The third time I went straight to the closet for our ETON. It definately came in handy for light inside the apartment. The AM/FM radio works but the weather band channels do not work. It could be due to all the concrete in this building & location of being near the ocean. Not sure. That is why I gave it 4 stars.
Otherwise it helped add lighting to the area & was able to get regular radio stations. It was used along with the portable battery charger my husband has.
Truly a let down...
I am not happy as the weather channel didn't work--volume poor regardless of with radio or for weather alerts. Very poor radio reception regardless of antenna. Wanted to use with local station in my state which I would refer to in bad weather. also I cannot use USB. Glad I didn't give as a gift and will return as tried out before gift giving!!! Sorry--but glad some have had better results.
Came in handy in Ice Storm
I was real glad that I had bought this before the ice storm hit the midwest right before Christmas. I listened to it all five days while I was without power. I forgot about the weather band so didn't try that. The crank would allow me to listen to the radio for about ten minutes at a time and I didn't have any trouble with reception on any of the stations. I wasn't able to get it to charge via the sun but both the windows in my house and in the car have special glass to keep heat in and cold out so even my transitions lens on my glasses don't change through the windows either. I forgot you could charge your cell phone with it so didn't try that either. I would charge the radio up in my car with the car charger and it would last 24 hours for me. It was nice to have something to listen to rather than tree branches breaking all over the neighborhood.
MY TEEN SON REALLY LIKED THIS GIFT!
I highly recommend ETON AND CRANK AM/FM WEATHER RADIO W/USB CHARGER AND FLASHLIGHT. Actually, I bought it for home emergencies; but, when my 13-year old Son saw it, I knew that he wanted it--he especially liked the USB charger and radio. My Son is very familiar with all the functions of this emergency radio and will easily be able to operate it when we have an emergency (me too). I was very impressed with the clear radio because another older emergency radio that we have is hard to hear with static--but, NOT this ETON model . . . it plays clear. Flashlight is bright and like that it has crank/solar power to charge. I chose the red color because it reminded me of fire-engine red. Thank you QVC and ETON!
