About James Dyson

James Dyson

James attended London’s Byam Shaw art school but painting beautiful objects wasn’t enough. James wanted to make, and the Royal College of Art allowed just that. James studied architecture, but instead of colonnades and cladding, robust marine engineering was the order of the day. He developed a flat-hulled high-speed landing craft and, with it, his passion for engineering. Pretty soon, he’d also developed a new kind of wheelbarrow – one with a big fat ball that didn’t sink into mud and chunky feet for stability. All the while learning to take risks, make mistakes and use frustration as a fuel for creativity and solving problems. Problems like vacuum cleaners that lose suction. Could the cyclone technology he’d first spotted on a sawmill work in a vacuum cleaner? He ripped the dusty clogged bag from his old vacuum and replaced it with a crude prototypes. 5,126 prototypes later: Dual Cyclone™ technology and the first bagless vacuum cleaner. During the five years it took to develop his first vacuum, James was also battling. First to convince other manufacturers to embrace his new technology. Then to protect his invention when they copied it. It’s enough to give you a complex. And it did. James’ experience informs the way Dyson works today. Keeping our inventions secret. Protecting our ideas. Always taking risks. Like developing a washing machine with 2-drums; emission-filtering diesel exhausts; clean air hand dryers; balls instead of wheels; robots – even a new type of school to get young people into engineering. Always new and better.

poor performance The cleaner which I purchased was a slightly different version (DC25). I have an older Dyson which works well. However the newer ball version is terrible. It is advertised for pet owners, but it will not pick up cat litter from the floor. This is not a reflection on QVC, but on the product.. It is also a pain to empty, as the cat hair sticks in the container and must be pulled out, and not because I vacuum infrequently - I vacuum daily. This will be my last Dyson product, ever. 01-28-13
POOR Dyson service This review is not against QVC.. I bought this vacuum cleaner less than a year ago from QVC. I really liked this product at the time I received it. However, my vacuum cleaner sucked up a pen and put a hole in the hose. I called the Dyson company. After telling them the problem, they told me to bring my vacuum to a vacuum cleaner store that would do the repairs. I brought my vacuum to the store early December. As of today, 1/24/13, the Dyson company has not sent the store the parts needed to repair my machine. In addition, the store I brought my vacuum to, told me there are many other Dysons in the same situation I am in. I am really upset. It is going on two months and I don''t have a vacuum. I spent a huge amount of money for this vacuum. I expected better service results. 01-24-13
Good Buy Love the Dyson DC41, but found something that causes it to loss suction , after taking down Xmas tree , cleaning up the pine neddles the vacuum loss suction at the end of the head the pine got stuck and clogged the head up, had to remove to red clip and clean thet out, so this means the Dyson can loss suction, still a very good vacuum. 01-06-13
What a cleaning machine This is our second Dyson. We loved the first one so much we decided to go back for a second machine. We have a cat that is allergic to dust and this machine pullsed much dust out of the carpet, we were shocked. We thought our first machine was good but this one has it beatby a long ways. We love the attachments that came with it. Cleaning upholstery now is a breeze. We love the ball action and the design makes it easy to get in under the furniture. We thought out first vacuum was good but we did wear it out. Thanks for putting it on easy pay. 10-28-12
Be careful emptying the dust container I had wanted this vacuum cleaner for some time. This past spring QVC had this model as a TSV and on easy pay. I ordered it in advance and could not wait to try it in my new house. It is easy to use, much less strain on my back than most other vacuums. It does pick up dirt very well, excellent cleaning ability and easy to use attachments. However, it doesn't lie flat enough to go under beds etc. And, BE CAREFUL when pushing the release button to empty the dust container. The button is connected to a very thin red plastic rod that pushes the bottom of the canister open. This very thin plastic piece snaps very easily. Mine did the second time I used it. On a good note, I called Dyson and told them this happened and they sent out a replacement container immediately, I received it within 4 days. So great customer service from Dyson, but they should have considered using something less fragile in their design. Look at this months Consumer Reports for more info on this model. 10-06-12
Best thing ever My husband just pruchased this product for me, our vacuum died and I had to have something immediately, had company coming. We had it sent overnite, and it was the best idea he has had in a while. We live on just under 500 acres so there is a lot to be drug in, by us and 3 dogs and 3 cats. Needless to say with having cattle there are some unmentionable things that make thier way in. This item was able to handle all, from the large to the very fine dirt that accumulates in your carpet from years of wear and tear. It was amazing to see what it pulled out of the carpet. The cord is nice and long, only had to find one outlet to be able to clean 3 rooms. I am very happy with this item and so glad to own it. Do not hesitate to purchase this item, it works fantastic. 10-05-12

best applliance I've ever owned I have several dogs with long hair. Cleanup has always been a chore. Now with the bloodclots in my lungs I have a HARD time cleaning my house, I get so short of breath very very fast. This vacumn is so very easy to use that I'm no longer ashamed of how my home looks. It's expensive but worth every penny I paid for it. 07-20-12
Best vacuum made I've heard nothing but great things about dyson vacuums, so when i finally bought one i was amazed how well it cleans! A++++ product! 02-17-12
Great Vacuum I have been looking at the dyson vacuum cleaners for over a year trying to decide which one to purchase, after comparing them all I decided on the dyson DC41. This is a awesome vacuum cleaner, it turns on a dime, when I first received it I had to try it out and could not believe the sand that came out of the carpet. It looked as though I had never vacuumed, so that was proof that the vacuum I had been using was not working as well as I thought. I highly recommend the Dyson DC41. 12-31-11
