I needed two cups of grated parmesan and it took forever. The food processor would have done this job in less than a minute. That said this is great for table top to use to grate some fresh cheese on pasta, salads, pizza or anything and that fresh cheese is hard to beat. I did not have trouble with the assembly/disassembly but think again for a big job, the spring did not keep compressing the cheese as it went along. Wasn't crazy about the comfort level when holding it for a while so just don't grate 2 cups of cheese and it will be fine.

I almost didn't order this based upon other reviews, but I decided the users must have been doing something wrong and gave it a try. I do agree that it's difficult to release the plunger section the first time, but once you do you can depress those ears a few times to make them work more easily. After that, just push your fingertips in as deeply as you can and it should pop out enough to grab the edges. I'd give it 5 stars if I had been able to open it easily the first time.

I bought this as an As Is item. It was not broken or damaged in any way, but I can understand the negative comments. While the ratcheting action is great, it is VERY hard to remove the components to change out the grater cylinder or to put in the cheese. Poor design/execution. FYI...I do not have arthritis or difficulty with my hands at all. For the price I will keep and use.

After reading reviews I thought I wasn't going to like this. But it's great. I thought it was going to be impossible to take apart. But it wasn't. I think people are trying to pull on the wrong part. I squeezed the two tabs and thought I had to pull on them but that's not how it works. The part that snaps in pops out and you pull it out. The same is true when you change the grater roll. You don't pull on the tabs, the snap in section that the roll is attached to pops out. You pull that out and carefully snap off the roll and snap on the other one. I have a recipe that calls for finely chopped peanuts. The large grater roll works great for the peanuts. They turned out perfect. This is a keeper.

I bought one for myself and one for my daughter-in-law. I couldn't open mine to even try it out. Returning both. Good concept - bad product. I wish I could give it a less than 1 star rating.

I was very disappointed in the construction of this item and I had to return it because I was unable to open it to clean it. You have to push in on both sides to open it for cleaning and this is very difficult. I just couldn't do it. I remember when David and Meredith showed this item on TV, they never showed how to open it. I had to send it back.

I found this cheese grater extremely difficult to use, I put the cheese in and has a hard time closing it. My husband finally got it closed. It was very difficult to turn the handle and the cheese came out in very tiny curls. Not worth sending back. It's going in the trash!

I like the concept of how the grater worked. The ratchet seemed easy to use. However, I am returning it because the ratchet/drum cylinder and the item container are too difficult for me to remove by pushing on the tabs. If both of them were easier to push in and pull out, I might have kept it. The container part needs a bigger knob to hold on to to help pull it out. I wished it worked better for me. Not for someone with bad hands.
