These may be gluten free, but they are also crabmeat free. There was very very little crab meat and an abundance of salt. When cooked, they looked like mush. Threw the rest of them out.
I have been gluten intolerant for 6 or 7 years. I enjoyed the regular crab cakes that I used to be able to eat. I was really thrilled to see these available gluten-free. I agree with other reviewers that these are spicier, but I really like spicy, so that's a plus for me. Other than that, I am in complete disagreement with the other negative reviews. Gluten free items never taste exactly like gluten-filled products. Gluten-free items vary in palatability. Some GF bread is really good, and some tastes like cardboard. I think these crab cakes are awesome, and I'm really grateful to be able to have Chesapeake Bay crab cakes again. A little like Cat Food...
I thought I had prepared these Gluten Free "Jumbo" Lump Crab Cakes incorrectly until I read the reviews. I see that I am in the majority and it wasn't my preparation. They were like eating cat food! They DO NOT look like the photo shown above.
Too spicy and mushy!
I have had to eat gluten free for almost ten years; I remember eating the regular Chesapeake Bay jumbo lump crab cakes and these do not even come close. The first time I made these I baked them for the time the directions said and they were so mushy that they were still spreading on the pan as I took them out of the oven. The next time I cooked them a little longer and still the same problem! Second, the spices were really overpowering, too spicy! When I was watching the presentation it was never mentioned that they were even a little spicy. Carolyn said they tasted exactly like the regular crab cakes; not even close! Third, they are not jumbo lump. These crab cakes need to be reworked - there is no reason for all the heat. With all the advances in gluten free cooking and products, I am sure Chesapeake Bay could come closer to the original for gluten free people. Please try again.
Purchased for Easter
Had these crab cakes for dinner on Easter Sunday. My children loved them. My son in law is gluten intolerant so he was thrilled with this product. They were o.k. with me but I found that the regular crab cakes have much more pieces of lump crab meat. These gluten free cakes were also very spicy for me. I am not a spice eater so I did not enjoy them as well as my family.
I would recommend them but it should be noted that they are very spicy. Even my family mentioned how spicy they were.
Zero Rating, Big Disappointment, Easter ruined!
These crab cakes are a complete disappointment. My first alarm with this product was the overwhelming fishy smell when I opened the original packaging. I had purchased these for an Easter dinner for my gluten free guests last night. I cooked them anyway according to package directions and what I served were mushy, unappetizing and very strong flavored crab cakes. Imagine my embarrassment after touting I had found "something really special" for my gluten/wheat free guests and especially my daughter who has not had a crab cake in 4 years! The house still stinks of fishy odor and everyone politely turned down eating them. The on-air presentation featured the crab cakes as "jumbo lump", not the case here. Even after extra time cooking, they were still piles of unappetizing mush and the egg used as a binder puddles around the base of the cake and forms a brown rubbery "crust". I want the manufacturer of these crab cakes to read this communication. I am very frustrated and want satisfaction.
The crab cakes were too saltly! I would drop this product from production. My family looks forward to crab cakes . Sadly, we had to throw away. This was not a good value for the money.
I have lived in Maryland for many years so I was afraid to order these but sometimes it is useful to be able to cook something very quickly. These crabcakes are terrible there ar no lumps, they are salty and they just tase bad. Gluten free crabcakes are easy to prepare all you nee is gluten free bread crumbs and leave out worchester sauce the crab can stand on its own.
NOT VERY GOOD
In the past I ordered the regular Chesapeak Bay Crab Cakes and they were absolutely delicious. Since that time I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. When I saw these on the GF show, I was so happy. I received them and put them in the freezer, hoping to serve them for part of my Easter menu. When I noticed the reviews online, I decided I had better try one of them before serving them to my guests. Wow! Am I glad that I did. These are NOT the quality of Chesapeak Bay. I guess the good part is that I caught it in time and did not serve them. QVC DOES stand behind their guarantee and refunded my money with no problem.I love this about QVC! I hope that Chesapeak Bay will rework the recipe and get rid of the salt and the spice. Also, I did not see any of those jumbo lumps. The one that I sampled was a scoop of moosh.

I had chesapeake bay in past before I had celiac and had to be on gluten free diet and they were the best these are not ! way to spicy do without spices and just have crab with tiny of gluten free crumbs and it wil be nice
Disappointed in Product
The crab cakes were far too salty. They were so spicy that it overpowered the taste of the crab. The first several bites left a slight burning sensation in the mouth. I ordered other crab cakes, as a Christmas gift, a couple of years ago. My friend said they were good. I wounder now if she just didn't want to hurt my feelings by saying they did not like them. I will find out for sure.
In the future I will not order anything without reading the reviews first. I would have returned them but to purchase hot ice & go through the hassle of packing & going to the post office just wasn't worth it.
I was so disappointed. I have several gluten intolerant friends so couldn't wait to try them.I followed the instuctions exactly and they turned out very mushy with NO discernible pieces of crab at all, They were also excessively salty and I like my food well seasoned. Sorry.
