M16521 - Ceramic Frog Solar Fountain by Smart Solar
I have had this on my waitlist for probably a year....hesitating to buy after reading some of the reviews, but thought it was just too cute. A month ago when I saw it was in the "final quantities" stage, I decided to bite the bullet and make the purchase. I was so excited when the package arrived. I opened it, took everything out and made sure all necessary parts were included. I started to put it together and realized the tube piece that goes in the bottom of the frog was too big to fit (or should I saw the opening on the frog was too small). I worked and worked and finally broke a piece on the frog. I emailed Smart Solar and told them of my problem and after about 1-2 weeks received an email back stating they would send a new frog. After about a week, the new frog was delivered and when I looked at the bottom of the frog I knew without a doubt it would fit together perfectly with the tubing......and it did!! However, that bottom part of the frog that goes down into the hole on the base, is TOO BIG!! I am trying to modify it so it will fit because I really want this to work. We'll see how it goes. I'm not terribly impressed with the QC efforts of this company......how can some of these little fountains assemble with no problem, while others have lots of issues?
I have had this out in my garden for a year. I did remove the solar part and stored it in the shed over the winter but the bowl looks great even after being outside for 12 months. The solar panel must be in the sun. The fountain stops running immediately when a cloud passes overhead but I don't mind that. I think it's exciting when it turns on after it's been cloudy a few days.
I bought this guy 3 years ago and I love it. Never had a problem with it starting up
and it worked in partial and full sun. You need to clean the filter often and
change the water almost daily but the only problem I had was the filter came unglued.
I reattached it with a twist tie and it worked fine until my neighborhood raccoon
knocked it off the table getting a drink.
I had to order another because I missed the sound of the water so much.
very happy with this little fountain
I purchased this fountain last summer and has been in the garden ever since. it just takes common sense to put it together regardless of the lousy instructions. Also, all solar fountains that I am aware of need full sun to run properly and the panel needs to be in FULL SUN. You need to keep the pump in the water and the filter clean, this goes with all fountains. I live in beautiful southern california so when the sun is nice and bright the little guy is spitting water. I unplugged the fountain for a couple of months due to on and off rain and lack of sun, and just within the last 3 days cleaned, refilled the fountain and put the panel out in the sun and it started right up....I'm very happy with my frog fountain and fellow gardeners have paid lots of compliments to the little guy.
BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK
Beautiful addition to my tropical themed kitchen. It only worked for 2 days.Very disappointing.Buy at your own risk. For me it was not worth the money spent on S&H plus the hassle of shipping it back.
Don't buy this
The water pump lasted about two weeks. Worst purchase I have ever made from QVC.
This little fountain is perfect to tuck into a garden. I placed it in a memorial garden I planted for my mom (a frog collector) and have had many nice comments about it. It is an unexpected find in any garden and the detached solar panel makes it easy to set toward the sun. Great item.
Purchased this for my mother. She really likes it. She likes to sit on the porch in the summer. I wish that this had a battery back-up because it needs directl sunlight to function. Couldn[t listen to it in the evening, because of no direct lighr, which means no power. My mom's dark screens which provides her comfort and shade, prevented the sunlight from coming in to operate the fountain. My brother stuck the panel outside of the screen door to catch sunlight and it worked perfectly. Not a very secure set-up though. 4-star due to lack of battery back up.
GREAT SOLAR FOUNTAIN VERY CUTE
I purchased this about 3 months ago and it is still going strong the thing I like most about it is that it does not take batteries it works when the sun is out and when the sun goes in it shuts down so you do not ever have to worry about the batteries loosing charge. I am grabbing me another one since it is on clearance. I dont know what the bad reviews are about because I just love mine and so do my cats they love to drink out of it since I have it sitting right in my flower bed on a wood block.
wish it had a battery
We really like our little froggy. It started spitting water when the sun first hit the solar panel and has been faithful since. The birds really like to bathe in the bowl even when the fountain isn't running. Reason for 4 out of 5 stars is only because it should have some sort of battery/storage means. It's not that big a bother to go and move the panel in the afternoon, we just enjoy it and have gotten many positive comments.
Not sure what problems folks could have had with putting it together, it went just fine for me. I've even cleaned the little pump filter and appreciate the fact that it has a filter to keep out the bird feathers and flower petals.
I purchased this as a gift for my mother, a major gardener. Like a fool, I didn't go ahead and try it out when I still had time to return it. Big mistake. The thing worked initially (for a day) and then just "died." I have gone over the instructions and tried eveyrthing they recommended. Wow. When will I ever learn.
Its a good solar fountain!
I really like this little solar fountain! I actually have it INSIDE my house. Placed it in front of a south-east facing bay window. It is surrounded by my kitchen herb garden ( also indoors). It usually starts up around 9 am and quits between 1 & 2 pm when the sun passes to another side of the house. So it works exactly as expected. Reasons for only 4 stars: 1. Parts were missing when it arrived so I had to call the company & have them sent out. 2. Very poor set up instructions 3. Extremely difficult to assemble correctly. Luckily my husband is an engineer! The "Put Together" needs to be seriously redesigned. But it has been fun.
