...this lens is THAT sharp. I took this lens for a "walk" and came back with some unbelievable shots...they were that clear, in focus and super sharp with THE smoothest, buttery bokeh I have ever seen.
This lens does NOT have image stabilization, so you WILL need to either shoot with a high shutter speed OR use a tripod for best results.
I do have to admit this lens it a bit much for a "walk in the woods"...just give yourself a lot of room for the focal length, for portraits.

This is a beast of a lens my go to portrait lens along with the 85mm. The combo of the 2 is just untouchable... If you are serious about photography and care about image quality then this lens is a must have.
A quick note: This lens requires experience to handle it, I would not recommend this lens to someone just starting out...

I am a professional photographer and wasn't sure I wanted this prime lens. however, my expectations were exceeded, and am using it often.
It is great for portraits as well as the action. It is a distance that can be worked with. I carry a 1.2 aperture- 50 mm L series canon lens , and this is a great addition.
The easy pay made it a no brainer.
Wish QVC carried a larger selection of their newest L series lenses....

The photos taken with this lens are extremely impressive. It will make an amateur look like a pro. Superior glass and well worth the investment. If you purchase this lens, take the time to get used to the depth of field. Try in it multiple conditions. Low light, cloudy days, sunlight. I say that because most of the time when individuals say the lens is not good, it's from lack of understanding of "how" to properly use the lens to bring out the best of what you're trying to accomplish. My images went from "ok, that's nice" to WOW!!. I get so many compliments. If it helps anyone, I use a 70D and a 5DMark II. I was impressed on the inside but after taking this lens outside and really absorbing the light, you'll wish you had purchased it sooner. Just learn the lens before making a snap judgment. This is a hefty lens, great build quality, quiet (mine came with a lens hood also). I have no cons nor any regrets since purchasing this lens.

This lens lives up to the hype! Sharp, crisp. Subjects with beautiful blur/bokeh background. Worth every cent.

This lens is super awesome. Hands down this is probably one of my favorite lens for any portrait session that I do. This provides tact sharp images with that super sweet blurry background. It is extremely light, and it's not as long as it appears in the picture.
Hands down, if you are reading this ration than you probably should be hitting the buy it button too! GREAT LEAS!

I have taken many pictures with this lens at f/2, f/2.8 and f/4 and simply put, this is a lens that will have its place in the Photography Hall of Fame. If you stand at the right distance, you can keep the aperture at f/2 and still get most of the person in full focus without the ears or shoulders out of focus. Having said that, there is absolutely NO necessity to stop down unless you want more dof.
This one is a keeper, beg borrow or steal $1100 to buy this lens.
