Butterball Indoor XL Electric Turkey Fryer by Masterbuilt
Works when it turns on...
Fryer takes a long time to heat up but does a good job. Had problems with it not turning on for me.
I would jiggle it or lift the element up and down and sometimes that would work.
I read a review with the same issue and pointed to the issue of a safety switch that
needs reset on the back of it.
I thought the unit was broke until I read that review and tried it.
Already owned the smaller version of this product, and found my spouse and I frying a 14-pound turkey every six weeks or so, which really helped out on our weekly food budget! When this model came up, I swooped! Really like the sturdier, stronger fry-basket.
After owning a three-rack smoker, both "Dadgum!" cookbooks and the fryer, Masterbuilt has become a regular in my kitchen
Perfect Fried Chicken!
My fryer arrived Friday afternoon and I used it for Sunday dinner fried chicken. I cooked a whole chicken at 3.5 minutes per pound and it was PERFECT.
I don't mean good ... I mean PERFECT, people! My unit took about 25 minutes to heat 2.75 gallons of peanut oil to 375. The heating time won't matter if you plan your meal because you can spend that time to prepare side dishes.
My two adult sons agree... Mom's fried chicken is unbeatable when cooked whole in this deep fryer. No mess, no spatters, very safe way to fry.
HINT: Let the chicken sit in the basket out of the oil for 5 or 6 minutes before removing it to a cutting board so the skin doesn't stick to the basket.
just got the butterball indoor turkey fryer . it is going back . i read the manual said it will take 45m to heat the oil to long for me. i did not use it because it takes to long to heat .
Great product when you know what is wrong with it.
I bought this fryer before Christmas. The first time I used it was for a low country boil and it worked great. My daughter and her friends were quite impressed with the food. However, the second time I used it we had problems with it coming on. I kept reinserting the element and after quite a few trys I was able to get to to come on. I fried a whole chicken and a couple of pounds of frys and they were great. The third time I tried to fix something I couldn't get it to come on for anything. I finally found that it was that little safety switch that for some reason was not getting tripped when the element piece was put into place. I found that I could trip the switch with a toothpick and re-insert the element and it would work. As long as it works this is a great product. The chicken we fried was fantastic and so were the fries. And the low country boil was again perfect. I know from reviews here that about 10% do seem to have a problem with the unit coming on. I hope this review will help. As long as it works it does a great job but I have to rate it 3 stars with the problems I did have.
Fried Chicken Was Delicious And Moist!!!
Specifically bought the fryer to fry chicken as my mom's chicken is the best hands down but is now a little older and doesn't make it very often. I tried frying on the stove before but did not like the splattering and trying to keep the temperature. Used the fryer 1st time tonight and I think I came close to my mom's without the splattering and worrying about the temperature. My husband couldn't stop eating as it was so good. Very easy and safe!! The only issue I had was the chicken once done would stick to the basket, anyone have a solution for this??? Otherwise very happy with my purchase.
quick and safe way to fry a turkey
we have had this turkey fryer for over two years now. I don't remember how many turkeys we have done, but they have all come out fantastic. No mess.. not greasy
just brown and moist inside. I love moist turkey.. my husband likes brown skin and a more dry turkey but he loves this.
No more propane to worry about burning the garage down. He is not an outside grill person. So when these came out I thought perfect.
Keeps the oven open for other things, and I can fry one turkey and then let it rest and if I need to fry another turkey I can put that in while I get the first turkey ready to eat.
I would recomend this to anyone. so many other uses.. steamer, and cooker, and deepfrying all those wings at football or other parties. Give it a try and if you dont like it then you can always send it back. Ours holds up to a 14 pound turkey and I hear that they have a larger one but like I said start with the 14# and if necessary make a 2nd turkey... or even chicken.
Great Product Quick Learning Curve
I had never fried my own turkey before and purchased this to fry a turkey for Christmas. I did a practice run and that turkey didn't turn out so well. I learned that I needed a bigger turkey for this fryer. My Christmas turkey was perfect. Best turkey I've ever had.
Love this fryer
We got this almost a year ago and have used it 4-5 times. It works great. It is easy to use and easy to clean! It has a lot of other uses besides just turkey frying, too. Great product!
Not hot enough
I thought I would get this where I could cook more chicken, Not so it took to long to cook a Whole and half of a chicken or two 2 pounds wings it took to long 35 min, or more with the lid off.
Didnt Work Right
We purchased this for our Christmas turkey and it would not heat up to the highest temp needed to cook the turkey. My husband is an electrician and said the unit continued grounding out. We cooked French fries in it but it still won't get higher than 275. I didn't spend this amount of money to cook French fries. We've called butterball twice but the company is closed for the holidays.
Better than my last fryer
Easy to assemble and operate. I love that you can fryup to a 20 pound turkey! The basket size is great and it is easier to set the turkey. This unit also heats the oil faster. Must buy for people who like to deep fry theirtyurkey.
