Bob Mackie's Embroidered Dragon Motif Zip Front Shirt
Show stopper in Red!
The photos do not do this justice! The red is gorgeous, with the embroidered dragon that sweeps the front and back. The fabric looks like silk dupioni and the embroidery gold silk thread and gold matte sequins. Zip front, so it can become a blouse or a jacket. Wonderful styling and totally elegant. Amazing quality for this price. Looks like $$.
I bought this in the purple, even though there wasn't an example of the color on the website. It is a deep, rich true purple, and the embroidery is gold and turquoise threads with turquoise sequins! The fabric is polyester, though it looks exactly like a nubby silk with a slight sheen. I know from experience that Bob Mackie's clothes generally run large, so I downsized to a small, so the fit is closer to the body. Looks great. I know he calls it a shirt, but I'm using it as a jacket over a chic short black dress on a cruise. It's one of those "POW!" Jackets that gets you admiration both coming AND going. I'll say it again: it's Spectacular!
Year of the dragon!
I purchased the shirt(more like a jacket) in a size large; I usually buy a 1x, or xl at the smallest, but I know that Bob Mackie is very generous with his cut. The jacket is made beautifully, and the dragon is perfect. The only two negatives that someone would have are 1. I bought the smaller size because red was not available in my size. Saying that, the jacket fits perfectly, so if you really needed a large, it would be very very big. 2. The jacket has little shape in the midsection, so if you need something fitted, don't get this one. I find the shape is perfect for someone with short arms and a larger waist. If you want a beautiful jacket for over a sleevless shift dress, this is the one!
I got TONS of compliments on this(in the red)-people thought it was "elegant" and "chic". You will, too!
I ordered this jacket for my neighbor's birthday. She was excited to wear it for an upcoming cruise. Today she stopped by to show me that the side seams were not completely sewn. I offered to return it but she wouldn't hear of it. She is taking the jacket to her seamstress to have the seams closed. Needless to say I was mortified. I will never order another Bob Mackie item!
Pretty, but not good fit and something off
Very pretty jacket in the slate color, and I tried 2 times to wear it to a "fancy" dinner party, but each time I put it on, something just wasn't right. I ordered my normal XS size and I think it was just too big, and also the silver tone zipper pull with the gold trim on the jacket just did not look right to me. I had gold and pearl jewelry on to go with the gold and ivory embroidery design, then looked in the mirror, and thought---that zipper is silver and the pull is so large, that silver just jumped out at me. It looked nice with the ivory silk slim fit pants I had on and the ivory tank/shell, but the fit and that silver pull just made me take it off and not wear it, so it is gong back. So sorry, as it is a pretty jacket and I was so excited to receive it ater it being on waitlist, but guess it just wasn't meant to be. I"ll still order from Mr Mackie, but this one was not a hit for me.
The embroidery work on the jacket was well done however, I was disappointed with the overall appearance especially the "hit you in the face" zipper pull. It really cheapened the look of the jacket and fabric. Sorry, I just wasn't satisfied with this product.
Purchased in red to wear to my son's wedding reception in July. I really like it.
I'm trying to decide what color top and pants to wear with it.
Not a Good Purchase
As stated by a previous customer, I ordered the jacket in Slate because at the time Black was sold out in medium. I am also 5'2" - jacket was too long, zipper ruined the look of the jacket. Loved the jacket as I was born in the year of the Dragon. I have many jackets and tops from Bob Mackie's collection. Sorry to say, I too returned the jacket. We need lengths for petite gals!
Thank you, Bob Mackie for your beautiful clothes.
Beautiful embroidery work
Ordered the jacket in slate and it really is a beautiful design. Unfortunately, I had to send it back because -- please, read this my dear Mr. Mackie - the jacket is too long for a person who is 5'2" tall. The length of this jacket might look better if it did not have the zipper front, however, being that it does I was not happy at how it looked zipped or worn open.
I feel it's so unfair that most designers do not make their clothes in regular and/or petite sizes. We are not all 5'10 to 6' feet tall as most models are and its hard to visualize what the length would be on a shorter person.
Was disappointed that it had to go back because it really is a knockout design and the medium fit well otherwise. PLEASE DESIGN WITH US SHORTER PEOPLE IN MIND!
Year of the Dragon (and beyond!)
Gasp. Gasp. Gasp. That was my reaction when I got my first in person look at this jacket. (Yes, it can be worn as a shirt, but will serve as a jacket in my wardrobe.) It's instant 1940s movie glamour translated into the 21st century. Hedy Lamarr would have rocked the Casbah -- and Pepe LeMoko -- in this dragon decorated beauty.
And the fit is perfect as though it were custom tailored just for me.
As a QVC customer, I thank you once again, Bob Mackie, for your great talent and imagination.
As Always Bob Knows How To Design
I just received this jacket in black. It is beyond beautiful. It fits perfectly, the workmanship is perfect. I always know when I order Bob's clothes they will be more then I expect. This will go on cruises with me.
