I have never used a home version carpet cleaner before, so I have no other reference. I used this on a 20 year old carpet that had never been cleaned, AND the carpet had a liberal treatment of Diatemaceous Earth ( bed bug scare)- a fine while powder that goes everywhere! We vacuumed twice then used this. It cleaned very well, although it did not completely clean some old stains. For a 13' x 17' room, I had to fill the bladder about 3-4 times.
Biggest cons: cleaning solution is expensive and bottles are small, brushes are a little challenging to clean.
I'm sure this will clean well for you-- it's highly unlikely your carpets will have as much particulate matter as mine did!

I only got to use this machine twice!!! Not empresses with the cleaning. The tank will not stay on .. I had to use electrical tape to hold it on while cleaning!! Too much trouble to send it back so I payed for a machine that I can't use!!!!

While these don't last for years and years, you'll want another one. It's that good.

I was really excited to get this as my old Bissell was on its dying brushes. I used it for the first time tonight and have mixed feelings about it,
I was disappointed that there was not a separate dispenser for the cleaning liquid, It has to be mixed in the bladder, which of course means it does not have a rinse option that my old machine had.
The dispenser button is a bit hard to hold down, so if you have any arthritis this could be an issue, also the side dispenser button does not release on its own, you have to push it to turn it on and pull it back it to turn it off.
It did a fair job of cleaning, and I really liked that I could take the cover off the brushes to clean it out. It was impressive how much dog hair it cleaned out that vacuuming had left behind. And it did pull up a lot of water so the carpet does not feel really damp.
It does have a larger water bladder, but of course the trade off is that it makes the machine much heavier to use. I was only able to clean one room at a time and had to break, other rooms will be done another day.

I've purchased the deep cleaner through another retailer and it worked excellent cleaning my carpet but not so great cleaning my upholstery. It saturates the couch fabric but the hand tool does poor sucking up the water and solution up from the fabric. So, not as useful as I thought when I have two french mastiffs that like to relax on my microfiber sofas. I think it's back to the drawing board to find a more suitable unit for my household. :(

I have a brand new Bissell and used it for the first time. I replaced a old Bissell that was beat up. My old and new Bissell does not spray water out consistently. I do one trail on my carpet and it comes out great. The next time I do a trail no water comes out of it. I have to turn it off after every trail for 3 to 5 minutes. This is exactly what I didn't want my Bissell to do considering my old one did the same thing. Now both of them have frustrated me to no end. Yes. I have tried the suggestions in the manual and none of them seem to work. I already want to get rid of it.

This product is great and cleans extremely well! I previously owned a Hoover with the spin brush. In comparison, the Bissell 36Z9 wins hands down. The Spinbrush design is poor because the single plastic stick that rotates one brush, which makes them all turn breaks easily. The roller brushes on the Bissell not only work better, but clean better too! The Bissell 36Z9 solves so many design issues as well. It is so wonderful to be able to actually keep my shampooer clean! The more parts that easily come apart for cleaning the better. No more trapped carpet fibers and pet hair with this machine! I like the 2 in 1 bladder water container and it is easier to empty/clean that I thought. I am able dump out the dirty water and rinse it clean without having to dump out the rest of the clean water because the clean water level was low enough to do so. I didn't want to waist soap solution so that's a plus! Also the built in hose is great and I can't rave enough about the attachment with the separate canister for dirty water. As a multi pet home, I also own a smaller portable shampooer. There is nothing more embarrassing than having guest and cleaning an accident from your elderly dog with a machine that stinks so bad from the dirty "accident" water sent through the machine. No matter how clean you keep your machine! This one little design of trapping the dirty water so it don't go through the machine is genius! As far as weight and manoverability, it's great. It's no different really than my vacuum cleaner. The ONLY downfall with the Bissell 36Z9 is the drying time. My old Hoover dryed extremly quick and both have 12amps. I used this shampooer the same way (with multiple strokes for suction) and after 2 hours and still damp, I towel dried it to speed up the process. I have concluded that it's most likely putting out more water than the old Hoover and with the improvement in the level of clean, I'm ok with that. Overall I'm a satisfied customer and I recomend this machine.

I have only used the machine once, but it was able to get out stains my ol' cleaner couldn't. Some of which I know is that it is new. I was also amazed at the amount of lint and hair that was all over the machine when finished, but easily was able to take the machine apart, clean it up, and put it back together, which I greatly appreciate. Nothing worse than cleaning with a dirty machine. Too ironic for me. Bascially, I like it! Will see how she does as she gets older...I'm kinda worried about this dual bladder thing is designed with...but we'll see...
