Why is the Sleeping Beauty Turquoise almost free of matrix or markings in the stone?
For Sleeping Beauty Turquoise, we closely monitor the range of blue color and the level of mottling, matrix and markings we will accept. Sleeping Beauty Turquoise can have all of these markings in the stone, but QVC currently accepts only Sleeping Beauty Turquoise that is free of markings.

What is matrix?
Turquoise deposits usually form in iron-rich host rock which tends to create dark brown or tan markings called matrix.

Where is Turquoise mined?
Turquoise is found in only a few places on earth: dry and barren regions where acidic, copper-rich groundwater seeps downward and reacts with minerals that contain phosphorus and aluminum. Some areas that most of the turquoise has been mined: Arizona, Mexico and China. Sleeping Beauty Turquoise is from the Sleeping Beauty mine outside Globe, Arizona. The mine got its name because the mountain where it is mined resembles a sleeping woman laying on her back with her arms crossed.

How can we continue to sell Sleeping Beauty Turquoise if the mine is closed?
QVC suppliers have acquired large quantities of rough turquoise when they learned the mine was closing. We have been using these lots of Sleeping Beauty Turquoise for our jewelry.

The Sleeping Beauty mine is currently closed and, at this time, there is no new production of the Sleeping Beauty stones.

LIGHT AND AIRY I HAVE HAD MY NECKLACE FOR ABOUT A MONTH, AND LOVE TO WEAR IT. IT IS SO LIGHT AND COMFORTABLE TO WEAR.....EXCEPTIONAL FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS, BUT WEAR IT ANYTIME. IT HAS A TOUCH OF THE THREE THINGS I LIKE MOST IN MY JEWELRY.....PICTURE JASPER, TURQUOISE, AND STERLING...THANKS FOR SUCH A BEAUTIFUL NECKLACE. 10-04-12
Delicate and Feminine It looks as beautiful in person as it did in the presentation. It was nice to find a turquoise necklace that looks delicate and feminine rather than the usual large chunky style turquoise necklaces. Very light weight. I love the mix of turquoise with the earth-tone picture jasper since I wear a lot of earth-tones. 05-15-12
Love this necklace Nor sure I would like this because never know what the stone size would be, I was delighted when I opened the box. Beautiful, picture jasper stones a good size, good color and overall a perfect weight, lightweight like the other viewer stated and very different. My turquoise stones are a geenish blue, and I might have perferred a bright blue , but it will still blend in with other turquoise peices. Was the overall color of the others greenish blue? 05-06-12
STUNNING! Beautiful design and stones. Extremely lightweight around the neck. Artisitic delight! 05-04-12
Beautiful and unique - LOVE! Thank you Carolyn, THANK YOU for this beautiful necklace! The turquoise is nice, bright and matrix-free, and the picture jasper is lovely. Such a pretty, feminine necklace - will fit right in with all my SW pieces. Looks great with my Sleeping Beauty rings and earrings. Nice weight on the najas! It drapes perfectly around my neck. Keep these beautiful pieces coming! 05-03-12
