About Alexandrite

About Alexandrite

Alexandrite

First discovered in the Russian Ural Mountains in the 1830's, alexandrite was named in honor of Tsar Alexander II. Today, this exotic gemstone can be found in few locations around the world, often in small sizes.

Alexandrite belongs to the chrysoberyl family, but its color-changing properties make it unique. This phenomenal gemstone changes color depending on the light source. In daylight, alexandrite appears green; in incandescent light, it appears a brownish or purplish red.

Important note: These images are not actual gemstones. They are retouched digital images that approximate the color ranges you will see in the gemstone you receive. Actual color ranges may vary depending on your gemstone.

Extremely thin setting. I have been fascinated with Alexandrite for years and have waited to purchase just the right piece. Unfortunately this was not it. Although the stones were beautiful and an amazing color, the setting is extremely thin and not at all what I expected. It's even thinner than that pictured. The sizing was off as well. I've worn a size 8 for as long as I can remember and this size 8 is sized like a 9. I would have exchanged it for a smaller size if the setting wasn't so thin. 05-21-13
Unsure Was on wait list for a very long time, excited to receive this ring yesterday. I went to a local jewelry store where a gemologist took a look at it. She said it is stamped inside "India". She said the stones do not appear to be the correct color for a natural stone so it is her impression that it is simulated. Thus she said the ring was actually worth about $400. She said Alexandrite should come with a gem certification, so I have to return it. It is a pretty ring and the stones are faceted and sparkle. 09-20-12
Absolutely Beautiful! This ring is stunning! I wore it to a local jeweler and he grabbed by hand and had to look at it under the loop...asked me if it was passed down from family. He said he can't ever get any Alexandrites in stock so he was amazed to see a ring with that many good quality stones. It is a winner! 08-04-12
