F08847 - "Christmas with Family & Friends" & "Christmas Cookies" Set
I just received these today. With the shipping and New York tax both of them came to less than what our local grocery store sells for one. They are full of little stories that warm your heart for Christmas. I can't wait to try the pepperoni and taco lasagna. There are so many wonderful recipes for cookies, too! I just found a recipe for stained glass windows which I had lost. Gooseberry always has an excellent product and at this price these are a total gift.
Two Christmas Present
Christmas with Family and Friends is a great collection of recipes from early morning breakfasts to cozy family suppers to festive holiday dinners. I also loved the section on holiday memories.
Christmas Cookies is an excellent collection of recipes. I used and shared several with my staff at our cookie exchange.I appreciated the recipes for mixes--great gifts.
This is a great deal for two Gooseberry cookbooks
Christmas made simple
Seems like two Standard Christmas cookbooks. Could have been better.
SAME - SAME - SAME
This was my first purchase of Gooseberry Cookbooks and will probably be my last. There were so many of the same recipes in the books just different names. How many sugar cookie recipes does one need ??? There must have been at least 10 sugar cookie recipes and many were exactly the same (just a different name). There were numerous main dishes that were also duplicated with different names. The books would be great if they had the number of recipes claimed but with so many duplicates I did not get all the recipes I was expecting.
Was expecting something special - but disappointed. Some of Gooseberry Patch's earlier books were pretty good. This set is similar to something you would buy from a local fund raiser.
Redundant - NOTHING NEW :(
I was attracted to the Gooseberry Patch cookbooks primarily for their titles and attractive covers. That is where their appeal stops. I have found numerous errors with the recipe's quantities. I discovered that the majority of recipes are not tested by Gooseberry Patch prior to them being published. The recipes are published on the faith that they are sent in correctly. If you have other GBP cookbooks, I recommend not purchasing any more. After looking through them, you will find a high number of recipes being replicated over and over again. The ingredients have been tweaked ever so slightly and a new name thought up. If you are looking for a high quality, tried & true cookbook, I suggest looking elsewhere.
"Christmas with Family & Friends" & "Christmas Coo
I see some are looking for extravagant recipes. Gooseberry is always great. I have these and many other books of theirs. Love them. You don't have to go broke or big fuss and still make something good to eat with their recipes and books. The helpful hints are very handy and good also. In a time where alot of people fuss because of stress and no time. These books are great.
A Good Read
I like to read cookbooks, as well as get recipes from them, so I found these to be charming.
RECIPES SO BLAH!!
I was so hoping for some great inspirational recipes, both Christmas dishes and cookies, but unfortunately found nothing. The cookie recipes were so very basic and boring. The Christmas dish recipes no better. Hated to have to pay the return postage, but I just don't need another unused cookbook laying around. Certainily not good enough to give as a gift either.
I love the Gooseberry books!
I love the gooseberry books. I have purchased them in the past as gifts. I really enjoy the little tips on the bottom of most pages. Great job and keep them coming.
Not my definition of "Homemade"
My comments address the "Christmas with Family & Friends" book, since I really haven't gotten into the "Cookies" one.
I was very disappointed because the Vast majority of the recipes have ingredients that are not homemade. It is very heavy on cream of this-or-that soup, jars of pasta sauce/marinara sauce, package of cornbread or some other type mix, etc. I mean, really, how difficult is homemade marinara that would at least beat jarred sauce? You get the picture.
If this doesn't bother you, that's fine. The recipes look quick and easy.
Mine is going into the "give to used book store" stack.
I made several recipes in these books. The Tortellini Soup was very good and the Christmas Cherry Salad turned out great. To those people who only buy cookbooks with pictures I say-it's only food-it doesn't have to be picture perfect. If you have any cooking knowledge what-so-ever these recipes are easy enough for anybody.
